Good evening!
Hope everyone’s day has been well.
In this post I’m going to be going over a few different ideas of how to pivot your business in times of slowness, up scaling, or getting into a new niche.
For starters, most of us start out by doing the basic detailing vehicles & growing within that realm. Growing a base of customers & securing that returning base as well, from that growing out to new customers & so on. From that we add on & scale a little with new services such as paint correction, PPF, Tint, Ceramic coatings to name a few of the more popular ones.
We do this to capture new clientele ranging from the consumer, fleet, commercial, private markets & expand the company’s services & reach. So if that means securing fleet accounts, commercial accounts, dealerships, private business, do what it takes to grow into new markets with new opportunities. Different types of industries pay different, doing a semi for the same time as a car is worth more.
With that thought in mind, doing a protective & ceramic coating on an agricultural piece of equipment is worth much more than a ceramic coating on a Chevy Silverado. Using what you currently have been doing, but now dipping into new customer bases. You wanna find the areas that no one is doing currently in your area, figure out the demand in those areas & if your service you offer has value, figure out what you can offer your services for & while making a profit, figure out a constructive & interactive way to pitch the products to the customer in mind. Make sure not to overload them with information & not to do all the talking, you want to introduce & interest them. Build a relationship & understanding with them about yourself, what you do, & what you intend to do for them. Also remember to be honest, honesty sells & the last thing you wanna do is make a promise you can’t deliver on.
Some examples would be the; Agricultural, mining, refineries, salt water environments, C3 & up category environments, residential (inside & outside), aviation, marine, & contracts. Just to name a few of many examples that could be the next niche you find.
We currently are getting into aviation & residential coatings, we have been offering under coatings & doing more work with the industrial coatings the last two years. We’ve been working on that while also figuring out what we can get into next, but not taking on to many at a time. Making sure you limit it to two new niches you’d like to get into, that way you have enough mental space & energy to work on the new things while keeping the current things alive.
Here are some examples of the work we’ve been doing with industrial coatings over the years, different pieces of equipment from different industries.
Frames, recovery equipment, snow removal equipment, tool boxes on trucks.

Odor removal is a common request for professional detailers. Whether it’s mildew, cigarette smoke, or organic odors caused by spilled milk, vomit, or other substances, effectively eliminating these smells can significantly enhance your service offering. One of the most powerful tools for this job is an ozone generator. Here, we’ll explore the benefits of using an ozone generator and provide a step-by-step guide on how to use it effectively.
Why Use an Ozone Generator?
1. Powerful Odor Elimination
- Ozone generators are highly effective in neutralizing a wide range of odors, including smoke, mildew, food spills, and more.
- The ozone gas produced penetrates deeply into upholstery, carpeting, and other surfaces, reaching places that standard cleaning methods might miss.
2. Comprehensive Treatment
- Ozone generators not only eliminate surface odors but also treat the air inside the vehicle, ensuring a fresher, cleaner environment.
- They are capable of reaching and sanitizing the HVAC system, which can be a hidden source of persistent odors.
3. Chemical-Free Solution
- Using ozone is a natural and chemical-free method of odor removal, making it a safer option for customers sensitive to harsh chemicals.
Steps to Effectively Use an Ozone Generator
1. Clean the Source of the Odor
- Before using the ozone generator, identify and clean the source of the odor. This often involves using an enzyme cleaner to break down organic matter responsible for bad smells.
2. Thoroughly Clean the Interior
- Clean the entire interior of the vehicle, focusing on the areas most affected by the odor.
- Use a heated interior extractor for deep cleaning of carpets and upholstery.
- Consider lifting the carpets to ensure the area beneath is completely dry. If the padding beneath the carpet is soaked, it may need to be replaced.
3. Replace the Cabin Filter
- It’s a good practice to replace the cabin filter before using the ozone generator. This can be done quickly and is crucial for maintaining a clean airflow system.
4. Use the Ozone Generator
- Place the ozone generator inside the vehicle and run it for several hours with the vehicle turned off.
- After the initial treatment, turn on the vehicle’s internal circulation system and let the engine run for at least 45 minutes with the ozone generator still running. This allows the ozone to treat the ductwork.
5. Air Out the Vehicle
- Ensure the vehicle is aired out for at least one hour before returning it to the customer to allow any residual ozone to dissipate.
6. Special Considerations for Older Vehicles
- For older classic cars, condition the vinyl and leather surfaces first, as ozone can dry out and potentially crack older leather.
Pricing and Profitability
Many professional detailers charge between $100 to $200 for ozone treatment on top of the specialized cleaning process. This additional service not only provides significant value to your customers but also offers a lucrative revenue stream for your business. Be sure to contact local auto body shops and insurance claims offices to advise them that you have the correct equipment for eliminating vehicle interior odors.
Conclusion
Using an ozone generator is a highly effective method for removing stubborn odors from vehicle interiors. By following the proper steps—cleaning the source, thoroughly cleaning the interior, replacing the cabin filter, and correctly using the ozone generator—you can ensure a fresh and odor-free vehicle for your customers. This powerful tool, combined with your expertise, will enhance your service offerings and reputation as a professional detailer.

3 years ago I was invited to a local networking group where we meet regularly once a week. The goal is to build know, like and trust relationships with other business professionals and sales reps in your local area. We stress the importance of knowing, liking and trusting everyone you work with while passing referrals. From this group alone we have done over $50k in sales directly from the group and even more valuable, I have connections for just about anything you could ever look for. I didn’t realize the importance of networking until I joined this group.
Networking is like having a sales force of people who know you, like you and trust you enough to put their name on your work. When they know someone looking for your services, you are the guy. In business, having these connections is great for keeping customers coming in and building a local presence through your network.
One of the most powerful tools I have is my network and through this I have learned a ton, been brought hundreds of great opportunities and have been able to help everyone around me. Learning how to network is one of the most powerful skills that will not only help you in your business but every aspect of your life. It will increase sales, build local branding and build your credibility as a young entrepreneur. People come to me when they need something because I am the guy who knows a guy. I have built a reputation for being great at networking and teaching other business owners how to do it.
If you have not put yourself out there into a local group that meets consistently, you need to. Force yourself out of your comfort zone, get good at public speaking and be a great networker. Being great at networking take nothing but hard work. It is an investment in yourself that will pay off hugely.
If anyone has questions about networking or how to get started, I’m an open book. Feel free to reach out. I’ve been named the Education Chair in my local group where I teach other business professionals how to be successful at networking. In the youngest member in my group and have one of the most important roles. Age is just a number. Be great at what you do and make others aware that you are the expert.

In today’s digital age, social media management is a game-changer for auto detailers. Engaging content, consistent posting, and strategic use of platforms can transform your online presence into a lead-generating machine.
Your content should resonate with your audience. Showcase before-and-after photos of your work, share customer testimonials, and provide car care tips. Engaging videos, such as time-lapse detailing sessions or quick DIY tips, can captivate your audience and boost engagement. Aim to post at least three to four times a week. Regular updates keep your audience engaged and remind them of your services. Use scheduling tools to plan your posts in advance and maintain a steady flow of content.

Focus on highlighting your expertise and the value you provide. Include behind-the-scenes looks at your detailing process, introduce your team, and announce any special promotions. Educational posts about car maintenance and the benefits of professional detailing can position you as a trusted authority in your field. Always include clear calls to action in your posts. Encourage followers to book appointments, visit your website, or contact you for more information. Use social media ads to target potential customers in your area and drive traffic to your site or booking platform.

Concentrate on platforms where your audience is most active. Instagram and Facebook are ideal for visual content and customer engagement. TikTok can be great for short, engaging videos showcasing your detailing skills. LinkedIn can help you connect with other professionals and local businesses for potential partnerships.

Develop a consistent brand voice and visual style. Use the same logo, color scheme, and tone of voice across all platforms.
